Traduku

English/Esperanto Translator Widget for Mac OS X Dashboard

Widget no longer functional due to changes in translation service. This project is not currently maintained.
Description

The Traduku widget is a small utility for translating full phrases between Esperanto and English. It uses the excellent translation service from Traduku.net to convert from one language to the other. A big thanks to those guys for running such a useful service; it's been invaluable to me in my attempt to learn Esperanto.

I made this widget so I could effectively have one-touch access to Esperanto translation; no need to fire up a web browser and go look something up. I just press F12 (my Dashboard hotkey), click in the box and start typing. I'm sure all Dashboard addicts can identify with this.

Usage

To translate text from Esperanto into English, follow these steps:

  1. Enter the esperanto word or phrase into the top box labeled "Esperanto ĉi tie..."
  2. Click the "Esperanto -> English" button
  3. Wait for the result to show up in the box labeled "English here..."

To translate from English into Esperanto, perform the same steps but enter your English text into the "English here..." box, then click the "English -> Esperanto" button; your translation will show up in the Esperanto box.

Tip: To save a little time, once you have entered the text you want translated in the appropriate box, simply press Ctrl+Enter or Apple+Enter to submit the text for translation. This way you don't have to use the mouse to find and click the appropriate translation button.
